Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler was born in Austria on April 20, 1889. He was the fourth of six children to Alois Hitler and Klara Polzl. As a child Hitler’s father disapproved of Hitler’s interest in fine arts and nationalism. His father then died suddenly in 1903 and two years later he dropped out of school.
Hitler began working as a casual laborer and a watercolor painter. He tried to pursue his interests in fine arts by applying to the Academy of Fine arts twice but was rejected both times. Out of money he moved into a homeless shelter for several years.

During the outbreak of World War I, Hitler applied and was accepted to serve the German Army in 1914. Hitler was acknowledged for his bravery by receiving badges. He later returned to Munich to continue his military work and monitored the German Worker’s Party (DAP). While monitoring he adapted many anti-Semitic and nationalist ideas and later joined the German Worker’s Party in 1919. As a member of The DAP he had many astonishing speeches that attracted regular audiences.
Through the Great Depression it provided a political opportunity for Hitler. In 1932 Hitler ran for president but came in second in both rounds of the election but he mad a strong impact in German politics. He was later appointed chancellor.

As chancellor he gained control over the legislative and executive branches and began to suppress the remaining political opposition. On July 14, 1933, Hitler’s Nazi party was the only legal political party in Germany. Finally, in 1935 when the German President Hindenburg died Hitler became head of state and supreme commander of the armed forces.
